Did you know that sewing makes you happier?

A survey published in the British Journal of Occupational Therapy in which they surveyed 3500 knitters (which gives very similar therapeutic effects as sewing), reveals that 81 percent of them reported feeling happy, and over half reported feeling very happy after knitting. This is likely because when you do something pleasurable like knitting (and sewing) it causes your brain to release a chemical called dopamine that boost mood and promote general wellbeing in many ways.

So next time you think “how can I possibly spend time sewing? I am too anxious/stressed-out/ fill-in-the-blank…” remember:

That’s a great time to sew!

When you start getting focused on your sewing the nervousness, the chatter in your mind, the worries, all melt away. As you concentrate on your project you disengage from the “noise”. Sewing calms your mind and releases tension in your body, and as you accomplish each step of your project, those little wins work like magic to boost your mood and confidence.

In the midst of the everyday little frustrations and disappointments of our busy lives, sewing can be the mama sanity oasis that allows you to refocus and recharge to keep giving your best.

That’s also why it is important to do it regularly, as a practice, just as you would do yoga or meditation. As a preventive “medicine”, little doses at a time 😊

So, let’s do some sewing!

Together, we can create a world with more happy mamas… and kiddos.

Happy Stitching :)

PS: Go ahead, spread the joy, share with a stitching mama you love :D
